Shivansh Joshi from Dehradun boy did not enroll in IIT after cracking JEE advanced, the most prestigious engineering entrance exam. He instead opted to pursue his career while serving the nation, by joining the defense forces. Not only did he decide to serve the nation but excelled in it by topping NDA. Shivansh Joshi, the young lad from Dehradun fulfilled his dreams to be a part of the defense wing of the nation. Where the youth of the nation raves about the cutthroat competition for Indian Institute of Technology, Shivansh opted for the road less traveled. After cracking JEE Advanced, he appeared for the NDA exam to join defense forces and not only qualified it but went on to top the entrance.

While interacting with media he talked about how enthusiastic are the youngsters from Uttarakhand about their nation and its honor. He dreamt of being in the defense forces since childhood. Just like models, singers, artists, and politicians from Uttarakhand who ace their fields, Shivansh stood ahead of all competitors.

The very young 17 years old Shivansh Joshi completed his schooling from Little Flower School, Kashipur. His father Sanjeev Joshi works for LIC and mother Tanuja Joshi is a government primary school teacher. His father now wants his younger son who is currently in 8th standard to become like his elder brother. Shivansh hails from Ramnagar. He scored 96.8% on his twelfth standard examination. Later he even cleared the entrance for IIT, by cracking JEE Advanced.

However, his passion to serve the nation led him to appear for NDA conducted by UPSC. The results were declared on 24th November 2017 and Shivansh Joshi topped the entrance. The written entrance was held in the month of April. Interview with qualifying candidates, by Services Selection Board, took place in September. After the interview round a merit list was prepared and declared on 25th November 2017. The merit list had Shivansh ahead of other 370 qualifying candidates.

Shivansh did not take any tuitions or coaching for cracking the entrance. He shares his secret to success, which was his regularity and willingness to work hard. He did not spend the entire day with books and used to indulge in sports and co-curricular activities. Football is his sport of choice got its time slot and studies had a fixed time. He did read books other than the core subjects and credits his success to being able to balance work and play.

The state of Uttarakhand has given the country pioneer national security advisor Ajit Kumar Doval and chief of army Bipin Rawat. Shivansh feels proud to hail from the same state as them. He is likely to be the first ever NDA topper who is from Uttarakhand.
