Dehradun is known for being the land of talented youth and Abhishek Kapoor has proven it yet again. Only recently he bagged the title of Mr Earth 2017 and made the country proud. Abhishek Kapoor hails from Dehradun.
Himalayan Buzz team recently got a chance to talk to him about his life and experiences. Read on to find it out all!
Before we start, please tell us about your childhood and education.
Basically, I am from Dehradun, but I did schooling for Roorkee. My father was in the government sector and he was posted there. I did my schooling from Roorkee then moved to Dehradun. Later I moved to England for higher studies. I have done Masters in Human Biochemistry & Technology. I also worked as an Assistant professor in Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. And later, I was a researcher and Sr. Nutrition Consultant at Perfect Wellness. Currently, I am focusing on my own venture Edustoke.
You are highly qualified and have an excellent experience, what took you to Mr Earth?
I was always keen about the glamour industry. But I spent my student life focusing on my studies and was quite a sincere student. Still somewhere inside me, there was a dream to represent India on an International level. And I also wanted that my voice and views can reach out to people. I saw a hope to fulfil it by winning this title. Now I can spread my message to the world about environment and greenery.
How do you justify this title “Mr Earth”?
I think this is the title which I can justify most. I am an environmentalist and working for greenery is my passion since my childhood. We also have an NGO named “Live in Heaven” based in Dehradun. I am working there as the president. The most important thing is that we are running it without any funds from the government. Wherever I see barren land, I take it upon myself to plant trees and make the area green again. Even our house in Dehradun is surrounded by forest and rivers.
You also judged Mr Grand International 2017 which was held in Philippine. How was your experience there?
Yes! Organizers of Mr Grand International 2017 invited me for judgment on the day of the finale. Actually, it wasn’t so easy to be the judge there. They screened the jury by some sort of assessment all over the world. So, I felt good that they are inviting me for my abilities not just because of my title. The event was so grand; representatives from all over the world were present there. Judging the contestants was a great experience for me.
I heard that you have interest in acting also?
Yes, I have been acting in short films for quite long now. Mainly we make movies for film festivals and try to raise issues regarding social evils. Through this effort, we try to give the positive message to different sections of the society. ‘Daldal’, ‘Precious Element’, ‘Cashless India’, and ‘Crossed – The Infiltrator’ are some of my works that received awards and positive reviews from critics.
What is your plan in your own city Dehradun?
Working in Dehradun will always be my first priority. Even before the pageant, I was doing modelling in other cities and abroad. But I could never do anything in Dehradun. Nowadays I am being invited as the jury in shows there. It’s really a great experience for me to get to work in my own city.
