1. Koi Mil Gaya
This Sci-Fi movie was released in the year 2003 which was mostly shot in Nainital, Bhimtaal and Kausani. According to the film, Hrithik Roshan’s mother raised him in Kasauli, which is in Himachal Pradesh but the shootings were done in Nainital. Hrithik Roshan, Rekha and Preity Zinta played the lead role in this movie, whereas Rakesh Roshan was the director of this film.
2. Vivah
Major portions of the movie were shot in Nainital. This movie was released in 2003. Prema Jagati School of Nainital was shown as the paternal house of Amrita Rao. Apart from this, there are many songs in this movie, which has been shot in places like Jageshwar Mandir, Almora, etc.
3. Baaz- A Bird in Danger
Karishma Kapoor, Sunil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Dino Morea, Preeti Jhangiani and Aditi Govitrikar have played the lead role in this movie. The entire movie was shot in Nainital and nearby areas. Karishma Kapoor played the role of Interior Designer who have arrived from Delhi for the new Job she got in Nainital. Sunil Shetty played the role of Police Commissioner Harshvardhan, whereas Preeti Jhangiani played the role of his subordinate. Aditi Govitrikar acted as Miss Nainital and Dino Morea was shown as a Loafer in this movie.
4. Sirf Tum
Sirf Tum is a Blockbuster movie. The storyline of the movie shows the girl from Nainital falling in love with a guy whom she has never seen; the boy is from Delhi who works In Kerala. Sanjay Kapoor, Priya Gill, Sushmita Sen and Jackie Shroff played the leading role in this movie. Apart from Naini lake, Kilbury, Mallital and Snow View areas have found presence in this film. This was the remake of Tamil National Award winning movie “Kadhai Kottai”, the beautiful songs shot In Nainital Valley is still popular among the masses.
5. Kati Patang
Kati Patang is one of the most successful movies filmed in Nainital. Asha Parekh, Rajesh Khanna and Prem Chopra played the Leading role. This movie has shown the beautiful Valleys of Nainital through the song “Jis Gali Me Tera Ghar Na ho Balma”. Asha Parekh has played the role of a girl who stays with her maternal uncle in Nainital.
6. Masoom
1983 released film Masoom has been filmed on different Location of Nainital. Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Supriya Pathak, Tanuja, Paidi Jairaj, Satish Kaushik and Anuradha played the leading role in this movie. This film saw the debut of Urmila Matondkar and Jugal Hansraj as a child actor.
7. Gumrah
Gumrah is among the early movies which started to present the beauty of Nainital through Big Screen. Mala Sinha played the role of a young lady Meena. Meena resides with her father and is in love with Rajendra, the role which is played by Sunil Dutt. Nirupa Roy played the role of Meena’s sister Kamala, whereas Ashok Kumar played the role of Kamala’s husband.
