Anirudh Raithwan’s entry into entrepreneurship was shaped as much by professional experience as by personal intent. After nearly two decades in the corporate hospitality sector, he chose to return to Dehradun with a clear objective: to build something lasting on his ancestral land in Pondha village while staying close to family. That decision led to the founding of AAR Hotels & Resorts.
The idea took form as a luxury boutique resort that would combine contemporary comfort with the natural setting of the Doon valley. Construction began in October 2019, just months before the pandemic disrupted the industry. With Raithwan and his brother still employed full-time, their retired parents oversaw on-ground construction, while planning and coordination continued remotely. The project opened its doors in February 2022 as AAR Resort & Spa, starting with eight rooms, an open-air restaurant, and a basic banquet facility.
Today, the resort has expanded to 16 rooms with private balconies, two restaurants, a modern banquet hall, landscaped lawns, a swimming pool, and recreational spaces. Further expansion to 32 rooms is planned by early 2025. The property has also gained recognition, including the Best Family Destination Resort award at the INDIA MICE Awards and a three Green Leaf certification from Uttarakhand Tourism for sustainable practices.
Raithwan’s focus has remained on operational depth rather than rapid scale. Banqueting has emerged as a key strength, with the resort becoming a preferred venue for weddings and corporate events due to its customised menus, service consistency, and attention to detail.
Looking ahead, Raithwan plans to develop AAR Hotels & Resorts into a multi-brand hospitality platform. Proposed ventures include boutique luxury resorts, budget hotels under the AAROTEL brand, and premium properties under AAR Luxury Collections. His long-term vision also includes a sustainable, village-themed resort that reflects regional culture.
For Raithwan, the journey underscores a simple principle: patient growth, grounded values, and persistence remain central to building a credible hospitality brand.
